NEW DELHI: EK Majhi, senior IAS officer who was on central deputation as Additional Secretary in Department of Food and Public Distribution, died of COVID on Monday night. He was undergoing treatment for COVID at Yashoda hospital in Ghaziabad.
Though his wife too had contracted the disease, she later tested negative for the virus. Majhi, a 1989 batch IAS officer, was posted in central deputation in 2018. He was promoted to the rank of secretary in February. He had two and a half more years of service left. In Kerala, he has held the posts of Chief Electoral Officer, Collector of Thiruvananthapuram, Secretary of Agriculture, Principal Secretary of Revenue, Secretary of PRD, Director of Fisheries, and Registrar of Co-operative Societies. He started his career as Alappuzha sub-collector.
He is the son of freedom fighter Ignatius Majhi, a tribal Janata Party leader from Sundergarh, Odisha. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed grief over his death.
