THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Loknath Behera said that an extensive system has been set up to provide life saving medicines to the critically ill. This is due to restrictions on out-of-district travel. But ordinary medicines are not available this way. For this special transport facilities have been set up at Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
The drugs are transported from one district to another in highway patrol vehicles. South zone IG Harshita Attalluri has been appointed as the state nodal officer for the project. The highway alert cell will monitor the movement of drugs at the police headquarters.
Call 112 for drugs
Police can be contacted on 112 for life saving medicine. The police will then collect the medicine, wrap it securely in a packet, record the patient's name, address, phone number and station name and inform the nodal officer.
Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and Kochi central police stations will function as drug collection centers. Doctors, hospital officials and relatives can dispense medicine at these centers. If medicines are to be delivered within the district, they should be collected by the district police chiefs through the Janamaithri police.
