Pinarayi government is corrupt, taking responsibility for defeat, says Chennithala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ramesh Chennithala has claimed responsibility for the party's heavy defeat in the Assembly elections. At the Congress parliamentary party meeting, Chennithala said that as the Leader of the Opposition, the people should evaluate his position inside and outside the Assembly.

Every failure is a new lesson. We need to correct the mistake and move forward. Chennithala said that during the crisis, everyone should stand together. I will be at the forefront to bring back the Congress and the Front, he said.

The government had to reverse its decision and back down due to strong allegations made by me as the Leader of the Opposition. Chennithala said it should be examined how far these things could be conveyed to the people and that he believes that he had been able to expose the corruption and tyranny of the government.

Winning an election alone will not eliminate corruption. There is no change in the position that the Pinarayi government is a corrupt government. Chennithala said it should be looked into whether the benefits provided by the government during the floods, Nipah and Ockhi had been converted into votes and that though allocating 55 per cent of the seats, only three won in the assembly elections.

Chennithala told reporters at the meeting that he had a close relationship with VD Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition, for about 35 years and that his work in the Assembly since 2001 would be invaluable.
