KOCHI: BJP state president K Surendran has said that certain corners have launched a toolkit campaign in the name of Lakshadweep. “It is a baseless allegation that Modi is trying to destroy the island just due to the reason that it is a Muslim dominated region. Even the MP of Mangalore has rejected reports which said that centre is trying to destabilise relations between Beypore and Lakshadweep and replace Beypore with Mangalore,” he said.

“The Kerala government has not taken any action to enhance the infrastructure facilities in Beypore, despite repeated requests and even willingness to spend money for that purpose from authorities in the Lakshadweep administration,” he said.

“Lakshadweep, which has a population of 80,000, has the capacity to produce only 100 litres of milk from its dairy farms and that is being served only to a few in the island. The administration had to spend Rs 800 per person for the distribution and production of milk. That is why the administration has asked the Amul company to transport the quantity of milk needed for the island people via ships. The critics must understand that a world-renowned company like Amul is not Modi’s firm,” he said.

“Coast guards had earlier seized 3,000 crores worth 300 kg heroin and five AK 47 guns and bullets. All media outlets in Kerala had reported this. Malayalam media outlets had also published reports of several foreign ships passing through the islands mysteriously. It is on the basis of these security issues, the Lakshadweep administration has taken action.” the BJP state president said.

Surendran further said that the Sunni students federation and certain Imams in the islands had complained when Anarkali film’s shooting was going on. They cited the film shooting as un-Islamic. The ongoing campaign is that the reason for the spread of Covid on the island is due to the administrator’s reforms. But the collector himself has said that it is not the reason. The exact reason is the increase in people’s movement. The beef was banned in the midday meal schemes on the island on the advice of health staff. In most of the mid-day meal schemes implemented in other states, meat is not served.
