DYFI activist held for sexually abusing minor in Kannur

KANNUR: An accused in the case of molesting a minor adivasi girl at Muzhakkunnu in Kannur has been arrested. The arrested has been identified as DYFI activist E K Nidheesh of Vilakode. He appeared at the police station and surrendered this morning.

The minor was sexually abused on May 20. He surrendered amid growing protests over the failure to arrest the accused days after the incident.

The girl had gone to wash clothes in the stream near the house. The complaint is that he forcibly took the girl home and raped her. A man in the area informed the girl's family about the incident. The family then lodged a complaint with the police.

There were speculations that the accused had left the state. Various organisations had staged protests for not nabbing the accused.
