CHENNAI: Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu has declined to accept ONV price after the controversy over #metoo allegations being raised against him. He has also requested that the prize money be donated to the Kerala chief minister’s disaster response fund. In the video which he shared on social media platforms, he has also thanked the office bearers of the trust and the jury panel who chose him for the award.
In the wake of the #metoo allegations against Vairamuthu, social media and other circles drew flak over giving the prestigious ONV award to him. Following this, the chairman of ONV foundation, Adoor Gopalakrishnan has said on Friday that he will reconsider the foundation’s decision to grant the award to Vairamuthu.
Meanwhile, declaring support to his father, Vairamuthu’s son has tweeted. He said in his tweet that If a group of people hate your family and throw baseless accusations on your dad or mom, and your parent denies those accusations, who will you trust? I trust my dad. If the concerned people believe they have truth on their side, let them take it to the legal authorities.
