Government doctor suspended for holding fake degree

KOLLAM: A woman doctor who had been working in the government service for seven years has been suspended from the post after her post-graduation degree was found to be fake. TS Seema, a gynecologist at the Karunagapally Govt. Taluk Headquarters Hospital and a native of Cherthala, has been suspended by the director of the health department.

Complaints and inquiries following a delivery led to the degree being proved false. In November 2019, baby died during the delivery of wife of Sabu, a Sasthamcotta's native. Sabu complained that the doctor's fault was the cause and staged a strike at the hospital.

Subsequent investigations by Sabu under the Right to Information Act revealed that the doctor's degree was fake. In 2008, she joined the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Maharashtra for higher studies in gynecology and withdrew from the course. Sabu lodged a complaint with the Health Minister and the Director of Health.

An investigation by the vigilance unit of the health department proved that Seema's PG degree was fake. Her medical council approval will soon be revoked. She will then be dismissed from service once the police register a criminal case.
