KANNUR: A vigilance raid is going on at the house of BJP national vice president A P Abdullakutty. The raid was carried out at Abdullakutty's house at Pallikunnu in Kannur. It is learned that the raid is in connection with a corruption case related to the light and sound show organised in Kannur fort.

The allegation against him is that more than Rs one crore was spent from the state exchequer. The raid is led by vigilance Kannur unit DySP Babu Peringoth. The investigation team is seeking details from Abdullakutty. He is cooperating with the raid.

The project was implemented in 2016 when he was Kannur MLA. The big project was conceived in collaboration with DTPC as part of the renovation of the fort. The project was brought days before the term of the UDF government ended.

An amount of Rs one crore was spent for the purchase of equipment for the project. However, in 2018 only a day’s light and sound show was held at Kannur Fort. The complaint alleged massive financial irregularities in it.

There was a vigilance inspection at Kannur DTPC and a file was seized in this connection a few days back. The raid today is a continuation of that. The raid at the house of a national leader would be a new headache for the BJP.
