State media awards announced: Kerala Kaumudi cartoonist TK Sujith wins award for best cartoon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The media awards of the state government have been announced. Kerala Kaumudi cartoonist TK Sujith won the award for best cartoon. The award went to the cartoon Achcha Din.

This is the tenth state media award received by TK Sujith, son of the late TR Kumaran and PR Thankamani atof Thirumittakode House, Thrissur. He has won several awards including the Maya Kamath National Award from the Indian Institute of Cartoonists, the Media Academy Fellowship and the Kerala Lalithakala Academy Award. Namitha, a lawyer at the Vanchiyoor court, is his wife. He has two children- Amal, plus two student at Abraham Memorial Higher Secondary School, Thirumala and Uma, a sixth standard student of Cotton Hill Girls School.

Mathrubhumi sub-editor Anu Abraham won the award for general reporting in the print media category. Malayala Manorama Chief reporter SV Rajesh received the award for development oriented reporting. Janayugam photographer VN Krishnaprakash won the news photography award. Mathrubhumi sub-editor Nileena Atholi received the special jury award in general reporting.


The award for TV news reporting went to Manorama News Senior Correspondent BG Thomas. Rini Raveendran, sub-editor of Asianet News, won the special jury prize for her report on women bike riders.


The award for the TV interview went to Ribin Raju, senior sub-editor of Mathrubhumi News. TM Harshan, 24 Associate Executive Editor, received a special jury mention for his interview with Harish Sivaramakrishnan titled Rocking Star.


Kairali TV Senior News Editor K Rajendran received the award for social empowerment report. Reporter M Manushankar of Asianet News received a special jury mention.


The award for TV cameraman went to Mathrubhumi News cameraman J Vaishakh, who covered the riots in Delhi in connection with the citizenship amendment act. Mathrubhumi News cameraman M Shameer received a special jury mention.


Shafiq Khan, editor of Asianet News, won the TV Editing Award for his outstanding editing of the news about the female bike rider. Manorama News Video Editor Arun Vincent received a special jury mention for his excellence in capturing the life of a bird over the years.


TV news reading award goes to Asianet News Chief Broadcasting Journalist Sujaya Parvathy. The visual media awards were decided by a jury comprising Leen B Jesmes, PJ Vincent and Usha S Nair.

The general reporting, development reporting and photography awards were decided by a jury comprising Gopalakrishnan, K Balachandran and KA Beena. The cartoon jury consisted of Krishna Poojappura, MS Sreekala and Bonnie Thomas.
