THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted monsoon to intensify from Friday onwards. Ahead of this, 11 districts have been asked to be on high alert. Yellow alert has been sounded in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
It has been predicted that there will be unprecedented heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday. All districts except Thiruvananthapuram has been asked to be on high alert. There is a possibility of isolated heavy rains. The Met Office has predicted 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours.
The meteorological department has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea in the wake of monsoon intensifying. Strong winds of up to 50 kmph are expected along the Kerala coast from Friday to Sunday. The warning also said fishermen should not go fishing on these days.
