THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Delta variant was the cause of the second wave of Covid in the state. The Delta virus can infect people who have been vaccinated and those who have not. However, the CM said that there was no possibility of the disease getting worse or causing death.

If the disease has previously spread from one person to 2-3 people, the delta virus is more likely to spread to 5-10 people. Therefore, Kovid code of conduct needs to be more strictly adhered to at this stage. In addition to wearing a double mask, special care should be taken to maintain a safe distance from others while eating and removing the mask.

"Even small gatherings should be avoided as much as possible. Those who go outside must wear a mask inside the house. Avoid eating together and watching TV with the family. Those who have been vaccinated should also be careful to wear a mask and maintain body distance. In them, the Delta virus can spread the disease again (breakthrough infection). They can also spread the disease to others. People with other illnesses are more likely to become infected and die from the disease," the CM added.
