Gold worth Rs 3.53 crores seized from five passengers at Karipur airport

KONDOTTY: Gold worth Rs 3.53 crore was seized from five passengers from Dubai at Karipur airport. The five arrived in Karipur on an Air India Express flight from Dubai. Karipur Air Customs Intelligence, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Kozhikode Preventive Customs jointly seized the gold.


2,099 grams of gold was recovered from VC Afthab (38), a native of Mavilai, Kannur. The gold was hidden inside a rechargeable fan's battery in 18 pieces. The exterior was also silver plated. The CJM court remanded him in custody for 14 days.


1,983 grams of gold hidden inside the battery of the emergency lamp in 17 pieces by Ajmal (25), a resident of Kozhikode, was also found. 1,339 grams of gold was recovered from P Nizamuddin from Kannur and 1,071 grams from P Mujeeb Rahman, a native of Kozhikode. Both of them attempted to smuggle it by hiding it in the body. All three arrested were released on bail.


Preventive Customs seized 1,339.2 grams of gold worth Rs 55 lakh from a Malappuram's Chellur native. He attempted to smuggle gold by hiding it inside underwear and socks.
