Shouldn’t wives live if husbands turn criminals? District panchayat chief justifies Periya murder accused wives appointment

KASARGOD: Kasargod district panchayat chief Baby Balakrishnan at a press meet justified the temporary appointment of the wives of the accused in Periya doubt murder case, in the district hospital. They were selected after interviewed by the superintendent and nursing superintendent. There is nothing unusual about it. Only approved the list prepared by them, she said.

While talking to the media she asked shouldn’t wives live if their husbands were criminals and said had not examined their family background. They were appointment as part-time sweepers and it is a temporary post. The wives of the accused came accidentally. The interviewees did not know that they were wives of the accused, said Baby.

She said many were reluctant to come because of Covid and the lockdown. They may have been considered because they belong to the same area. She asked that just because they are wives of the accused they don’t have the right to work, aren’t they citizens, asked Baby.

The Youth League staged a protest march to the district panchayat office against the illegal appointment of the accused 'wives. The Youth Congress also held a march yesterday.

The district panchayat president came forward with an explanation after the opposition organizations protested strongly against the temporary appointment of the wives of the first three accused to the post of sweeper in the district hospital
