Vismaya death: Kiran in police custody, decision to file case after cause of death becomes clear

KOLLAM: The police have taken Kiran, husband of Vismaya who was found hanging, into custody in connection with the incident. Kiran, a motor vehicle inspector, is being questioned by the police. Vismaya's relatives have lodged a complaint with the police alleging that it is a murder following torture over dowry.

Kiran, who went into hiding after Vismaya's death, reached the police station and surrendered. He surrendered after the woman's funeral was over. Police have not taken up registered a case in the incident. The decision is to file a case after understanding the cause of the death. Vismaya's father had earlier alleged that his daughter would not commit suicide and was killed.

Public outrage is on the rise across the state after the shocking news that her husband had abused Vismaya at home. The Women's Commission has voluntarily registered a case and sought a report from the Kollam Rural SP. Vismaya was married to Kiran in March 2020. Relatives point out that Vismaya said she was brutally tortured in the name of dowry within a year of getting married.
