Spirit godown traced in Palakkad, seven taken into custody, accused tried to influence them by offering money, says excise

PALAKKAD: A spirit godown was found in Anakkappara. Twelve cans of spirit and 20 cans of spirit mixed with water were seized. 2000 litres of artificial toddy and Rs 12 lakh were also recovered. The excise team have taken seven people into custody.

The excise said Soman Nair, hailing from Thrissur, is the main accused. He has gone into hiding. The inspection was carried out by the state excise enforcement squad. The artificial toddy production was focused around a house.

The spirit was kept in a separate slot under the bed. Meantime, excise circle inspector Anil Kumar said the accused tried to influence them by offering money. They offered an amount of Rs 10 lakh, he said.
