THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An owner of a light and sound shop committed suicide in the capital city. The dead has been identified as Nirmal Chandran of Murinjapalam. He was 54. It has been indicated that he took the extreme step following financial crisis. He was running a chicken shop following lockdown.
The locals said that he committed suicide due to severe financial crunch. He had a debt of around Rs 10 lakh, said Nirmal’s brother.
Nirmal had pledged ornaments of his daughter, an undergraduate student. He waited hoping that everything would return to normal, but as Covid continued, his life turned to be difficult. He did not even have the money to pay the rent of his shop.
When he had no business during lockdown, he turned to chicken business. He started it after taking a loan. However, sales did not turn out as he expected. The suicide may be due to not being able to cope with the financial hardships. He committed suicide at Kallambalam.
