THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president K Surendran has accused CPM leaders of using political influence to embezzle the Scheduled Caste welfare fund provided by the central government to local bodies in Kerala. He said that the DYFI state committee member's embezzling funds by influencing an SC promoter in Thiruvananthapuram was an example of this.
"Even though the SC promoter complained that the money had reached the account of the mother and father of the DYFI state committee member through the treasury, the government chose to ignore it. The money has been coming in since 2016 but the government has not taken any action. The CPM is swindling the money that belongs to the poor Scheduled Castes by changing the account number. An FIR was filed in the case but the accused were granted bail due to the negligence of the police. What happened in Thiruvananthapuram is just the tip of the iceberg. Such scams are taking place in all the municipalities of Kerala. Corruption is perpetrated through SC promoters. Though AK Balan, the then Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, was aware of the corruption, he turned a blind eye towards the issue," Surendran said.
