NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has responded to the traders' stand that shops will be opened every day from Thursday unless there are necessary relaxations in Covid restrictions in the state. "The government can understand the sentiments of the traders and is standing with them. However, they should not take the other way. If such a situation arises, it will be dealt in the appropriate way," the CM said during a press meet in New Delhi.

"The number of non-infected people in Kerala is very high. That is a challenge. The existing restrictions and testing methods cannot be changed by listening to some of these comments. If any place has fallen into the D category, it means that there is a severe spread of Covid and restrictions are inevitable there. Many places in the D category came under the C category after enforcing the restrictions. However, the spread of the disease increased in several areas that come under the B and C categories due to the relaxations," he said.

"Each of us has a responsibility to make sure that our lives are not endangered by the spread of covid. Such measures have been adopted for the safety of the people. Everyone must be ready to embrace it. The District Collector and the District Police Chief have been directed to convene a meeting of the representatives of the traders and to discuss the matter and convince them of the situation," the CM added.
