National capital on high alert over possible terror attack ahead of Independence Day

high-alert

NEW DELHI: Security agencies warn of a possible terror attack in the country's national capital ahead of the 75th Independence Day on August 15. With this, the Delhi Police has beefed up security in the days between the monsoon session of Parliament and Independence Day.

The warning is that a major terrorist conspiracy is being hatched to rattle Delhi on August 5 and Pakistan-based terrorists are behind it. Article 370 was abrogated from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 and as a result the terrorists are trying to carry out the big attack in the national capital on this day itself.

Balaji Srivastava, the newly-appointed Delhi Police Commissioner, had earlier this month briefed the officers on the precautions to be taken by the army. On Sunday, night patrols were conducted all over Delhi.

Flying of drones has been banned in Delhi till August 15. The move comes in the wake of reports of drones posing a security threat including in Kashmir. Hot air balloons are also banned from flying. Police are also being trained to destroy drones.
