Authorities tighten observation after bird flu in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: A preliminary examination in Thiruvananthapuram confirmed that bird flu is the cause of death of 300 chickens in a private poultry farm at Koorachunde. This was confirmed in the tests conducted at the Regional Lab. However, bird flu will be confirmed only after obtaining the results of the samples sent to the lab in Bhopal.

All areas within ten kilometres of the farm will be strictly monitored. Koorachunde panchayat president said other birds in the area will also be observed. The only way forward is to cull the infected birds. Bird flu has been reported in other states of the country. A 12-year-old boy died after infected in Haryana.
