Biju joined the bank after becoming party member, following this he bought land and vehicles; his growth was shocking, say locals

THRISSUR: Locals said that the economic growth of Biju Kareem, the accused in the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank scam case, was rapid. They alleged that Biju constructed a big house and bought lands using the money swindled from the bank.

He made a living by doing small jobs. After joining the CPM, he became the manager of Karuvannur Co-operative Bank. Following this, he constructed a big house. Locals said that Biju has purchases lands and several expensive vehicles.

Biju and commission agent Bijoy are reported to have embezzled more than Rs 50 crore from 46 loans in violation of the loan rules. All the accused are absconding. Biju's family has not yet responded to the allegations.
