PALAKKAD: In a major heist, nearly 7.5 kilograms of gold and cash were stolen from the co-operative bank in Chandranagar. The robbers broke the bank locker and decamped with the gold and cash kept inside. The big robbery happened at the Marutha Road Co-operative Rural Credit Society.
The burglars looted the money and the jewellery kept in the locker after the strong room of the bank was opened using a gas cutter. The police are examining the CCTV footages of the bank. All the valuables kept in the bank have been stolen.
The bank was closed on Saturday and Sunday due to the lockdown. The incident came to light when the authorities opened the bank today after the holidays.
