MUMBAI: Even as the tussle between Twitter and the central government over the implementation of Indian IT laws continues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a record by becoming the world leader with over 7 crore followers on Twitter. At present, the Indian PM is the most followed active politician on Twitter.
Narendra Modi, who started using Twitter when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2009, had over one lakh followers in 2010. After becoming the Prime Minister in 2014, the number of followers increased. Modi's account, which had 6 crore followers in July last year, crossed the 7 crore mark on Wednesday. Meanwhile, @PMOIndia, the official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister of India, has 4.3 crore followers.
