NEW DELHI: Former priest Robin Vadakkumcherry and accused in the Kottiyoor sexual abuse case, approached the Supreme Court seeking bail to marry the victim. A bench led by Justices Vineeth Sharan and Dinesh Maheshwari will consider his plea on Monday.
The rape survivor had filed a plea in the Supreme Court the other day seeking permission to marry the priest. The plea was filed on the grounds that marriage was necessary to register the father's name when enrolling their four-year-old son in school.
She had informed the court that the decision to marry him was her own choice. He raped her in 2016 while working as the vicar of St. Sebastian's Church in Kottiyoor. The incident came to light after she gave birth to a baby.
