PALAKKAD: Shruthi, a native of Vadakkencherry, was brutally set ablaze by her husband. Her death turned out to be a murder in an investigation conducted by the police following the complaint of her parents. Police said that he set her afire in front of their children after she questioned his extramarital affairs. The statement of the children was crucial in the case. Sreejith, arrested for abetting suicide, has been remanded.

The couple got married 12 years ago. Shruthi sustained burns at his house in Kizhakkancherry on June 18. She died while undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College on June 21. Her parents came forward demanding a probe after they grew suspicious. Her parents gave statement to Vadakkencherry police asserting that she was set ablaze. In an investigation, the police found that the couple got engaged in constant verbal spats. His relationship with another woman is the cause of the fight. The couple’s children informed the neighbours that their father set her ablaze. This turned crucial in the probe. Sreejith confessed to everything on interrogation.
