MUNDAKAYAM: A family who went to the temple on the lockdown day has been fined Rs 17,500. The police fined Manthara Mohanan, a worker at the Kokkayar Kodikuthi rubber plantation, and his family. A team led by additional sub inspector Rajesh stopped Mohanan’s vehicle while they were on their way to the temple in Nedumkandam.

There were five people in the vehicle including women. They noted everyone’s address and informed them that a case would not be registered. When Mohanan, reached the police station the next day, they told him that as the case is in the court asked him to pay the fine of Rs 17,500 in the court. They charged Rs 3500 for each person. How can a rubber plantation worker pay this much fine? Inspector Jayaprakash told him that a case was registered for travelling on the lockdown day without maintaining a social distance. It is alleged that the Peruvanthanam police fined him after entering the limits of the Peermedu police station.
