THRISSUR: BJP state spokesperson B Gopalakrishnan has demanded a Rs 5 crore prize for Olympic medalist hockey player Sreejesh. "If the government does not announce the award, a people's award will be announced in collaboration with the people. Although other states have announced the award, the Chief Minister did not announce the award due to the religious politics of the Pinarayi government", he said. Gopalakrishnan also alleged that the government was insulting Sreejesh as Pinarayi.

"It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are not ready to call and congratulate Sreejesh directly as the Prime Minister did. It is doubtful whether Junaid Phobia has caught Pinarayi. It is doubtful whether the delay in announcing the award to Sreejesh is due to the same religious and political pressure over which the Chief Minister earlier withdrew his Facebook post in disrespect to the body of Soumya from Idukki who died in Israel. Gopalakrishnan said the CPM workers are happy if China wins, adding that there was a hidden agenda behind ignoring Sreejesh.
