THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The employees of the Travancore Devaswom Board, who are facing a severe financial crisis, may not get a bonus for this Onam. The board somehow managed to pay the salary with the amount given by the government. If the bonus and festival allowance are to be paid, another Rs 10 crore will be required. A further amount has been demanded from the government but no decision has been taken. . Devaswom Board President N Vasu said the crisis would intensify if the Covid crisis does not go away and all the temples return to their normal situation. He said the decision on the bonus this time would depend on government funding.

The Devaswom Board, which has about 1,250 temples, had revenue from 60 major temples to cover expenses at other places. With the onset of Covid, the revenue of these temples also stopped. There are also complaints that the board does not receive the revenue from the temples properly. The inspection was tightened after it was found that the employees were taking money without giving receipts for the offerings. After the Board discussing the report of the Devaswom Board Commissioner on the increase in the rate of offerings, the recommendations will be submitted to the High Court.
