Price of live chicken drops while frozen chicken rises, cheaper prices at Kepco

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The price of fresh chicken in packets has not come down though the price of chicken in the general market has come down in the pre-Onam period after Bakrid.

However, Kepco is still significantly cheaper than the general market.

The price of a live chicken bought from the market in Thiruvananthapuram is currently between Rs 98 and Rs 113. When processed, it is reduced to 350-400 gm/kg. The revised price of fresh chicken in Kepco, which is distributed in packets in pieces, is Rs 231 per kg for skinned and Rs 235 per kg for dressed. Earlier prices were 201 and 204. Prices in the general market are Rs 249 and Rs. 269 respectively. Kepco had priced the frozen curry cut chicken at Rs 210 a week ago. Now it is 241. This can cost up to Rs 270 in the general market.
