Centre urges states to do away with RTPCR tests for fully vaccinated inter-state travellers

NEW DELHI: The central government has asked states to allow inter-state travel without any other conditions to those having a certificate of taking two doses of the vaccine. The Centre also directed to waive the condition of a RTPCR negative result to enter states.

Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy had raised the issue in the Lok Sabha earlier. The Union Tourism Ministry wrote to the states in writing soon after that.

Only Sikkim and Maharashtra presently allow inter-state travel to those who have taken two doses of the vaccine. All the other states are taking a different approach in this regard. People from other states including Bengal and Karnataka are allowed to enter the state only if they have an RTPCR negative report. The Centre has directed the states to adopt a policy in this regard.

Several organizations had earlier complained to the union tourism ministry that such attitudes of the states were seriously affecting the tourism sector. The Centre's current proposal is a continuation of all this.
