Major blow to Cardinal, Kerala HC asks Alencherry to face trial in land deal

KOCHI: Cardinal Mar George Alencherry suffered a major blow in the Syro Malabar Church land transaction case. The Kerala High Court rejected the cardinal's appeal against the lower court order. The court ordered the cardinal to face trial.

The high court rejected all six pleas filed by the cardinal. He will approach the Supreme Court against the high court order. The case is that the diocese incurred loss of lakhs by selling 60 cents of land owned by Angamaly Archdiocese of Ernakulam and that the land transaction was done without consulting various committees of the church.
