THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister MV Govindan has said that the rental rate allowed by local bodies will be increased by up to 50 per cent above the PWD rate to facilitate the operation of Janakeeya hotels, which were started with the aim of making Kerala hunger-free.

Rent for Janakeeya hotels operating in rented buildings is paid by local bodies. It also carries electricity and water charges. The minister said the decision to increase the rent was based on the fact that in many places, the rent could not be paid when the building rent was fixed at the PWD rate.
