When PSC truncates rank list!

Getting a government job is one of the biggest dreams of the vast majority of youth in Kerala. The greatest advantage of government jobs is that one can speak one's own language in his home country, and live a happy life with necessary financial security and social acceptance. But in terms of our population, only a very small percentage get jobs through PSC. This is not the old days. Those in government service are essentially well paid. He will also get a decent pension till his death. Government officials and pensioners are a section of the population who are not financially well-off even during this period.

Despite all this, getting a government job through PSC is a daunting task. The current situation is that appointments will not be made from any list despite months of strikes in front of the Secretariat and the PSC office. The main reason for the widespread complaint of non-availability of jobs is the delay made by the department heads in reporting vacancies. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed the assembly that in order to avoid this complaint, the rank list is being prepared in accordance with the reservation principles in proportion to the vacancy. The government has appointed a Justice Dinesh Commission to make recommendations in this regard. It is certainly not desirable to include more candidates in the rank list than expected vacancies. It has also led to the loss of other opportunities while waiting to be selected from the PSC list. The Chief Minister also informed the House that arrangements will be made to know the details of vacancies on the websites of the respective departments. Under the current system, PSC lists three to five times more candidates than expected. This is about to change. Concerns have also been raised that such a reduction in the size of the rank list will affect the reservation appointments that the backward-scheduled communities are entitled to. When there are no people to fill vacancies when new posts are created, it will pave the way for outdoor appointments. Even if the temporary appointments in many departments are reduced, many people on the PSC list will get jobs. But for political reasons, all governments have been pursuing contract appointments to the maximum extent possible. If this is not regulated, it is likely that job seekers will have to take to the streets again for appointment.
