NEW DELHI: The Delhi Court Wednesday acquitted Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the case in connection with the death of his wife Sunanada Pushkar. He has been excluded from the list of accused. The verdict is that of Rose Avenue Court and was pronounced by judge Gitanjali Goel.
Soon after the verdict, Tharoor said, ‘Most grateful, your honour. It's been seven-and-half years of absolute torture. I really appreciate it."
The Delhi Police argued that there is evidence to charge Tharoor with abetment of suicide or murder in the incident that happened in 2014. Tharoor, however, claimed that Sunanda was suffering from various ailments and that her death was natural. The case was investigated by a special team of the Delhi Police.
She was found dead in a hotel in the city on the night of January 17 in 2014. The allegation that Tharoor was involved in Sunanda's death had caused a great deal of political controversy.
