THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the state witnessing a rise in the test positivity rate (TPR), restrictions are likely to be tightened from the next week. TPR in the state had risen to 17.73 percent yesterday. This is the first time in 87 days that the TPR has risen so much. The government is looking at this with concern. The change in Covid regulations will be discussed at tomorrow's review meeting.
Kerala recorded 17,106 new Covid cases and 83 Covid deaths on Saturday. The number of tests was also low. Only 96,481 samples were tested. Meanwhile, 20,846 patients tested negative on Saturday.
Several experts have pointed out that the increase in TPR is due to the relaxation announced during Onam. Authorities had strongly advised people to strictly adhere to Covid protocols. However, large crowds were witnessed at many places, including markets. Many including health workers have raised concern that the number of Covid patients could rise by Monday.
