Light and sound owner ends life due to Covid induced financial crisis

sumesh-

KOLLAM: The owner of a light and sound company in Kundara committed suicide due to Covid induced financial crisis. Sumesh was found hanging at his house yesterday morning.

His relatives said that he took the drastic step due to severe financial crisis following the lockdown. With this, seven from the light and sound sector, committed suicide in the state.

Sumesh started ‘Kallu Sounds’ by taking loans from two banks after pledging his and his wife’s properties, before the previous lockdown. However, he had to close down his light and sound company after all public programmes came to a standstill following lockdown. His relatives said that he was under severe mental stress after closing his company. The situation was aggravated by his inability to repay the money borrowed from the neighbours.

Kundara MLA P C Vishnunath alleged that the problems of the workers in the light and sound sector were brought to the attention of the government earlier but no action was taken.
