Smart ration card from November 1, you can apply the card which has more benefits this way…

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister G R Anil unveiled the new ration card in the size of a smart card at the press meet. Those who want it will get it for Rs 25 from November 1. One can apply directly at the taluk supply office or online through the portal of civil supplies department. Will consider giving free to the priority category.

There is a QR code and a barcode. The owner's name, photo and address are on the front and the monthly income, ration shop number, whether the house is electrified or has a gas cylinder on the other side.

The e-ration card inaugurated by the then food minister P Thilothaman on February 12 was modified into smart card.

Along with E-PoS machines in shops, a QR code scanner will also be kept. Details will be displayed on the screen while scanning. The information on the purchase of ration will be received on the receiver's mobile.

Can be used as an identity card and can carry it while travelling. Such cards will be more useful when the 'One country One Ration Card' system is implemented in the country.

One can apply through Akshaya Kendras or through the citizen login at civilsupplieskerala.gov.in. If approved by the taluk supply officer or city rationing officer, the card will reach the applicant's login page. You can take a print of it and use. Can collect the card from the office when they inform you.
