Nipah: Symptoms noticed on two more in contact list of boy dead, 20 in high risk category

KOZHIKODE: Two more who came in contact with the boy, who died of Nipah virus, have been confirmed of the symptoms. Health Minister Veena George said they would be shifted to a separate ward. A contact list of 152 people has been prepared. An inspection led by the health department found those in the contact list. Of these, 20 are in the primary contact list coming under the high risk category. It is also being investigated whether more people are included in the contact list. Meantime, a high level meeting is being convened at the Kozhikode Collectorate by Health Minister Veena George to discuss the preventive measures to be taken.

In the wake of the confirmation of Nipah death in the state, the Center has put forward four proposals before Kerala. The center has directed to examine urgently the relatives of the boy dead and prepare a contact list of the last 12 days. Quarantine and isolation should be prepared as quickly as possible, samples should be examined at the earliest are the other directions. A central team will reach Kerala soon.

The boy was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode on Wednesday with fever and vomiting. He had fever of 104 degrees when rushed to the hospital. Samples were sent for testing when symptoms of Nipah were seen. The child died Sunday morning at 4.45 am. All three samples of the boy were positive.

Kozhikode is on high alert after nipah was confirmed again. Vehicular traffic has been restricted in the area where the house of the boy is. The control is within a radius of three-kilometers. Meantime, the body of the boy has been buried.
