Central team reaches Kozhikode following confirmation of Nipah; collects sample from area from where boy ate Rambutan

KOZHIKODE: A central team has visited Chathamangalam in Kozhikode, where a 12-year-old boy died after getting infected by Nipah. The deceased has been identified as the son of a coconut tree climber from Chathamangalam. The boy, who was being treated for brain fever, died within hours of being diagnosed with the disease.

The team from the National Centre for Disease Control visited the house of the boy and collected samples of Rambutan fruits from the nearby vicinity. Cautionary steps have been issued in Malappuram and Kannur districts.

A high-level team led by Health Minister Veena George is camping in Kozhikode to monitor the situation. Kozhikode Medical College principal has called a meeting of all the department heads. The health minister will also attend the meeting.
