Nipah death: Child sought treatment at five hospitals, route map released, control room opened in Malappuram

KOZHIKODE: The district administration has released the route map of the child who died due to Nipah in Chathamangalam in Kozhikode. The route map for the days from August 27 to September 1 has been released. On August 27, the child played with neighbours. On the 29th from 8.30 am to 8.45 am, the child was taken to a private clinic in Eranjimavu called Dr. Mohammed Central.

On August 31, the child was taken to private hospitals in Mukkam and Omassery for treatment and reached the medical college in the afternoon. From there, to a private hospital in Kozhikode on September 1 and stayed there for subsequent days. The Minister of Health said that the issue of non-collection of sample of the deceased child at the Medical College Hospital will be seriously examined.

The mother of the child also has a mild fever. The health minister said that private hospitals has been asked to report cases of abnormal fever symptoms. The review meeting will be held tomorrow evening.

The shortage of ICU beds in the medical college will be addressed. Samples of all 20 people at high risk will be sent to NVI. The minister also explained that the medical college pay ward block will be Nipah ward.

Apart from Kozhikode, a control room has been opened in Malappuram as part of the Nipah vigil. Those with symptoms should contact the district control room or health workers. Directions were given to set up special isolation wards and treatment facilities for NIP patients at all major hospitals in the district including Manjeri Medical College. If bats or birds are found dead en masse in any part of the country, the Department of Animal Husbandry should be notified.
