HC tightens stand on attack against health workers, directs govt to take strong action

high-court

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has tightened their stand in connection with the attack on health workers. The court directed the government to take stern action against those who attack the health workers. The court's directions came while considering a case related to Covid treatment rates. The private hospitals informed the court that FIR is not being registered in the attacks. The court demanded the DGP to intervene in complaints of assault on health workers.

Attacking health workers is a non-bailable offense in Kerala. They will have to serve a three-year jail term and must pay a fine of Rs 50,000. However, no significant action is taken against the accused in such cases. Despite the non-bailable charges, the police took steps to help the accused by not filing the charge sheet in time and delaying the trial. As a result, incidents of violence against health workers are on the rise. Several incidents have been reported in the capital district recently.
