Man falls into dam and drowns while trying to escape from excise officials

KULAMAVU: A 47-year old man fell into the Kulamavu dam and drowned when he tried to escape from the excise officials. The deceased has been identified as Muthiyurundayar native Benny (47), who runs a chicken shop. The incident took place at 5 pm on Monday. It is learnt that Benny fell into the dam while he was trying to escape from the excise officials who came in search of spurious liquor. He was divorced from his wife and was living alone. The body was found by the fire force team that reached from Moolamattom. The body has been shifted to Thodupuzha District Hospital for postmortem. The excise team also found a litre of arrack in Benny's shop.
