Siblings drown at Omanapuzha Pozhi while playing

ALAPPUZHA: In a tragic incident, two siblings drowned while playing at Omanapuzha Pozhi in Alappuzha. The deceased have been identified as Abhijith (11) and Anagha (10), children of Mararikulam native Napolean and Shymol. The incident took place at around 4.45 pm on Friday.

The accident happened when the two were playing near the Pozhi (estuary). It is assumed that the two might have fallen into the water while playing. The children were later brought ashore by local fishermen. Though the two were rushed to the Chettikad hospital and later to the Alappuzha Medical College, they could not be saved.

Abhijith was a class 5 student of SCMV UP School Poomkavu while Anakha was a class 4 student of the same school. Their father, Napoleon, is a fisherman. Mother Shymol is a nurse in Kuwait. They have an elder brother named Ajith. The bodies are currently kept at the mortuary of the Medical College.
