Girl dies of snakebite, kin allege hospital laxity

MALAYINKEEZHU: A four-and-a-half-year-old girl died after a snake bit her while playing in front of her house. The incident took place around 4.30 pm on Wednesday. Annamol had told her parents that her foot had hit a wall. She fainted soon after. She was rushed to a private hospital in Kattakada after vomiting and foaming at the mouth, but her relatives alleged that she was not even given first aid. Half an hour later the hospital authorities told them not to wait and take the child away as a doctor didn't come. She was rushed to Neyyar Medicity and later shifted to SAT Hospital.

The toxin was found in a detailed examination there. Snake bite marks were also found on the left foot.

She was transferred to a ventilator but died at 10 a.m. yesterday.

She was about to join the LKG when the school opens. Ratheesh is a dairy farmer. He also works as a tile labourer. The body was buried in a specially prepared place in front of the house as the was Covid positive on testing. Sister: Ananya.
