NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the need to protect the rivers of the country. He said the rivers need to be revitalized and that he sees rivers as mother. The Prime Minister was speaking through his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat.

‘Rivers are related to our lives. Today is World Rivers Day. This day is very important for India, because this day is associated with the tradition of India. On World Rivers Day, I remember the Namami Ganga Mission progressing smoothly with the participation of the people. The Naga River in Tamil Nadu has dried up, but the river has given life to the village due to the initiatives and active participation of rural women. There is still plenty of water in the river and people from all corners of the country are requested to celebrate the river festival at least once a year. It is wrong to pollute rivers, even on a small scale,’ the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said last month a transaction of Rs 350 crore was done digitally through UPI and urged the people to abide by Covid security rules during the festive season.
