Sreedhi, who did not want to study medicine, shines in workshop

PATHANAMTHITTA: In 2018, at a time when she was about to get admission for Ayurveda or Veterinary Medicine, Sreedhi opened up to her father that she desired to become a mechanic and not a doctor. Sreedhi's father Prasad, a mechanic, did not oppose his daughter's desire.

Today, 21-year-old Sreedhi is a well-known mechanic at Idayaranmula in Pathanamthitta. She now runs a workshop next to her father's workshop. However, she has not given up her studies. She is studying automobile engineering to learn more about vehicles. She is a third-year student of MahaKavi Vennikulam Gopalakurup Polytechnic college.

While studying in class 8, she developed an interest in repairing vehicles by repairing her friend's cycle. Upon seeing his daughter's talent, Prasad started taking her to the workshop as his assistant. Sreedhi started her workshop when the lockdown started.

Due to her studies, Sreedhi is only able to service two vehicles per day. She receives constant support from her teachers and classmates.

Started workshop for women

Sreedhi started her workshop for women's vehicles. There is a reason behind that. "Many of the women who come with the vehicles are not even able to explain the issues. They will be relieved to find that the mechanic is a woman," she said. Nowadays, several men also come to her workshop to get bikes and cars repaired. "Many even call me at night for help. My father too will come with me. I never had a bad experience," she added.
