Bodies of three students who went missing in Walayar dam found

WALAYAR: The bodies of the three students who entered the Walayar dam and went missing on Monday have been obtained. The three were part of a five-member group of students who went missing while having a bath. The dead were identified as Sanjay (16), son of Ramesh of Sundarapuram in Coimbatore, Anto, (16), son of Joseph of Face to Theruvu and Purnesh (16), son of Shanmugham of Kamaraj Nagar.

Rahul (15) and Pranav (16), the other two and natives of Sundarapuram did not enter the water. The body of Purnesh washed ashore early Tuesday morning. The bodies of the other two were recovered with the help of the fire force personnel from Kanjikode and Palakkad stations, a scuba diving team and local residents. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of the district hospital.

The students were bathing in the Pichanur area of the dam in Tamil Nadu. The youths entered the water in an area in the dam where large pits have formed because of sand mining. The students may have got caught in the deep pits.

The students were first-year computer engineering diploma students of Hindustan Polytechnic College in Coimbatore.
