THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the police to work from the people. He said the people judge the government through the performance of the police.

The chief minister was speaking after receiving the honour at the passing out parade of police force. He attended the function online. There have been widespread complaints recently about the police's behaviour towards people.

There were reports that many top police officials have close ties with Monson Mavunkal, who was arrested for cheating many in the name of antiques. Documents showing traffic I G Lakshmana intervening to save Monson were released yesterday.

Pictures of Monson with former DGP Loknath Behra were circulated on social media. However, Behra's response was that Monson was not his friend.

Monson was able to arrange protection for his fraud with his good rapport with top police officials including DGP and DIGs. Victims of the 10 crore scam approached the police many times but as no action was taken they lodged a complaint with the chief minister. Such incidents will affect the credibility of the police and the government, reminded the chief minister.
