CM sets out to fix police force

cm

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for a meeting to fix the state police force which has been embarrassing the government through several recent actions. Police officers ranging from DGP to SHOs will attend the meeting on Sunday.

The meeting was called after various reports claimed that former DGP Loknath Behera allegedly provided police protection to conman Monson Mavunkal and that a dozen officials from IG to CI were involved in the scam.

The police force is now suffering a setback as several high ranking officers seem to have forgotten that they should remain cautious even during unofficial visits and while establishing friendships.

The police force was also embarrassed when a young woman from Kollam trapped the officers in a honeytrap. Inadequacies from any one member of the police force would be detrimental to the force as a whole.

Government policy must be implemented

  • Police should not succumb to caste-religion or political-community-individual influence in the case investigation. The poor and the rich should be treated equally.
  • Complaints should be accepted. Complainants should be treated with respect. In case of factual information, the FIR should be registered.
  • Any information received about violence against women and children should be investigated. Women's safety should be a priority.
  • Police officers should not befriend criminals, goons and mafias. If found guilty, officials will be suspended.
  • Police officials will not be protected if government policies are not implemented. Care must be taken to ensure justice and security.
