Slashed Nithina’s neck while talking to mother on phone, love failure reason for murder, says accused

KOTTAYAM: Abhishek Baiju, who was arrested, told police that he slashed his classmate’s neck due to love failure. During interrogation Abhishek said that he was in love with Nithina for two years and she estranged from him recently and this was the reason for his enmity towards her. He told police that he did not intend to kill her, brought the knife to slit his own wrist and frighten her.

Nithina was killed when she was talking to her mother on phone. Abhishek had seized Nithina's phone two days ago. He came to see Nithina to return the phone. Eyewitnesses said Abhishek, who was sitting on the next bench till the police arrived, got into the police jeep without any hesitation.

The murder happened near the newly constructed Civil Service Academy on campus. Construction workers were the first to arrive at the scene. They saw Nithina lying down with injuries on her neck and Abhishek resting on a nearby bench with a small cut on her arm. Nithina was rushed to the hospital in a vehicle that came that way.
